After designing hundreds of websites over the past 10 years, we’ve got some tips that we know are going to make a difference…

Here are a few next steps that we put together for you:

1. Simplify your menu and make your navigation easy

Nothing is a bigger turn-off for your website visitors than not being able to find what they’re looking for on your website. That’s why you need to make your navigation stupid simple to find and use.

  • Minimize the number of links in your top menu to no more than 7
  • If you have a lot of pages, organize them in a dropdown menu with clear labels
  • Double-check you don’t have any broken links on your site using this free tool
  • Include a link to of all your website pages in your website footer

2. Test your mobile site

A ton of your website visitors may not even have a laptop or ever see the desktop version of your site! That’s why it’s critical to test that your site looks just as good on mobile phones as it does on a computer.

Here are some things you want to look out for with your mobile design:

  • Check your hamburger menu functions properly
  • Ensure nothing is getting cut-off the page
  • Ensure that your pop-ups aren’t preventing people from clicking around the site
  • Make sure the text size is large and readable without having to zoom
  • Double-check that your design is responsive for different screen sizes

3. Test and retest all of the forms on your site.

This is how your clients are going to reach out to you so if your forms don’t work, I can guarantee you’re definitely losing out. Your website visitors aren’t going to be jumping through hoops to find another way to contact you so don’t make this critical mistake. (Believe me, I’ve had this happen!)

  • Can you fill out all the fields?
  • Are there any errors?
  • Could you make the form simpler?
  • Do you successfully get an email notification when a user submits the form?
  • Does the user get a confirmation message or is redirected to a thank you page once they click submit?
