As the Thanksgiving holiday grows near and the excitement of stuffing our faces with turkey is nearly palpable,  it only seems appropriate that I should dedicate a post to thanksgiving. Of the many blessings I have to be thankful for, my career in graphic design has always been near the top of my list. Here are just a few reasons why.

I was born to design.

I am certain that, although I didn’t come out of the womb with a copy of Adobe Photoshop in hand, I was destined for this career. My entire life I have always been fascinated by art, design and all things creative. For many people, it can take years or even a lifetime to figure out what they want to do with their lives. Some may never be certain what their calling is. I am thankful that my career path in graphic design has always been very clear to me and that I have the skills, strengths and talent to travel it successfully.

I am in control.

The longer I was employed at a 9-5 desk job, the more I realized that it just wasn’t for me. While working from home is definitely not for everyone, for a more introverted person like myself, it has been a dream come true. Instead of dreading my alarm everyday and feeling awkward in the middle of office politics and small talk, I can take charge of my own day, clients and the people I work with. Being in control of my workday has indescribably set me free of stress and given me the ability to balance my life, and ultimately, my happiness. I am thankful that my career as a graphic designer allows me such flexibility and gives me the opportunity to do things I never dreamed.

I help others achieve.

I have always been a highly motivated person with more ambition than is probably healthy for one person. In fact, for those of you that are familiar with the popular book/test Strengthsfinder, my top talent was revealed to be the ability to envision the future (futuristic). With so much of my energy dedicated to achieving and looking to the future, nothing makes me happier than to help others do the same. Helping others to reach their goals and watching them cross the finish line is often just as rewarding as it is to reach my own goals. As a graphic designer, I play a privileged role to engage with so many different types of businesses and be a part of their story to success.

Before I enrolled in design school, I was *this* close to switching my major to become a writer. But God had other plans, and here I am, 10 years later, designing gorgeous brands & websites while nurturing my love for writing on the side.
